How to Set Up Payments for Your Online School

Plan course payments before launch: where students will see the price, how they will pay, and when they will get access. When those steps are disconnected, even a successful payment ends with “I’ve paid — what now?” Here is how to prepare checkout and check the path from an order to the lessons.

Bank transfers and order tracking

With manual transfers, someone has to match the payment to a student, check the amount, and open the right course. When people buy different products at the same time, a missing payment reference or incorrect email address makes reconciliation harder.

A payment integration connects the transaction to an order and helps organise access delivery. Before accepting payments, check the requirements for your business, account, and payment documents with the relevant local sources and your provider. Connecting an LMS does not settle those requirements.

What to prepare

  • The product: a single course, a bundle, or a subscription.
  • The price, currency, and access period.
  • Your own payment-provider account, with its verification requirements completed.
  • A clear offer, purchase terms, and a contact for payment questions.

How a payment button works

The button takes a buyer to checkout and payment through the selected provider. Once a successful payment is confirmed, the platform should grant access according to the product settings. This requires a connected integration and the correct link between the product and its course.

  1. Choose a provider that supports your business location and the currencies and payment methods your students need.
  2. Check its fees, settlement terms, and connection requirements.
  3. Connect your provider account in Softbook using the instructions for that integration.
  4. Create a product, link it to the course, and set the price and access terms.
  5. Check the complete buyer journey using an available test mode before opening sales.

Connection time depends on account verification and how ready your settings are. There is no single setup deadline that applies to every school.

Payments and access in Softbook

Softbook connects learning with sales: you build a course, create a product, and set up access after purchase. Orders and payment statuses help you see what a student bought and whether the payment is confirmed.

Softbook supports eight payment integrations:

  • Monobank, LiqPay, WayForPay, Portmone, and Hutko.
  • Stripe and PayPal.
  • Przelewy24.

An available integration does not mean identical terms for every seller. Check supported currencies, business locations, and payment methods with the provider. See the current list on the Softbook integrations page.

A product can contain a course, a bundle, or a subscription. Sales tools include promo codes, discounts, and order management; see Sales and CRM. Check platform subscription, storage, and email terms on the pricing page.

What to check before opening sales

  • Checkout shows the correct product, price, currency, and access period.
  • A successful test payment appears against the corresponding order.
  • The buyer receives access to the materials they purchased.
  • An incomplete or declined payment does not grant paid access.
  • The student knows how to sign in and where to ask for help.

If the provider has no test mode, agree on a verification method with it before launch. For follow-up workflows, read Online School Automation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which payment systems can I connect?

Monobank, LiqPay, WayForPay, Portmone, Hutko, Stripe, PayPal, and Przelewy24. Check the provider’s requirements for your account, business location, and sales currency before choosing.

Do I need to configure access delivery?

Yes. Link the product to its course and define the access terms. After a confirmed payment, Softbook grants access according to those settings. Check the result as a student before opening sales.

Is adding a payment button enough?

No. You also need a provider account, a configured integration, a product, and a verified connection between payment and access.

How long does setup take?

It depends on the provider’s requirements, account verification, and your school’s readiness. Confirm the timeline for your situation before announcing sales.

Do I need a card for the Softbook trial?

No. The trial lasts 30 days without a bank card and has trial limits. These are the platform’s trial terms; accepting student payments is configured separately.
